Our Bureau Chennai, Nov. 19 Trading volume remained moderate at Rs 41,656.37 crore on Wednesday in the F&O segment on the NSE against Tuesday’s volume of Rs 43,260 crore. The NSE Nifty future ended the day with sharp discount at 2619 against the spot close of 2635. Cost-of carry and un-matched bid/ask order book suggest accumulation of short positions in Nifty future. Not only index, even many stock futures also saw addition of short positions in today’s market. Index options Among the index options, 2800 call and 2700 put were the most active. While 2700 and 2600 put saw fresh accumulation of open interest positions, indicating downward pressure, the 2800 call also added about 3.44 lakh shares in open positions. The Nifty 2700 call saw an accumulation of 8.08 lakh shares. However, the Nifty 2900 call shed about 2.02 lakh shares (or 9.53 per cent) in open interest positions, indicating the emergence of call writers. India VIX or NSE Volatility Index declined further but still remain firm at 60.84 against the previous day’s close of 64.66. Stock futuresAmong the contracts that saw accumulations of short positions were State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, ICICI Bank, BHEL and Larsen & Toubro. NTPC and ICICI Bank added 24.6 lakh shares and 18.59 lakh shares respectively in open interest positions; while NTPC future closed at 135.45 against the spot close of 136, ICICI Bank future closed in discount at 344.05 (348.25). L&T future added about 8.16 lakh shares and closed at 720.4 against the spot close of 732.15. Reliance Industries saw unwinding of long positions, during the closing hours of trade. The future added about 7.63 lakh shares in open interest and closed at 1116.4 in discount to the spot close of 1132.45. FII activityOverseas investors turned net buyers in the F&O segment on Wednesday by about Rs 200 crore.
